This is what we do.
First, we tear off the old roof—that’s necessary to install the new one properly. Some roofers offer to put the new one over the old one, but that’s asking for trouble.
Next, we install what’s called a drip edge to the eaves, both giving the roof a polished look and keeping water from running down the fascia boards.
Third, we put down underlayment, which prevents ice dams and strong winds from letting water seep into your home. Over the underlayment, we staple rolls of tar paper that help keep water out and add fire protection. Then comes another step in waterproofing: we install another layer of underlayment of felt paper to cover the valleys.
Fourth, we install starter shingles, which lay under the regular shingles, and provide more weather protection by preventing water from seeping down in between shingle seams. We then install the top layer of shingles in an overlapping fashion.
Finally, it’s time for the finishing touches. We install flashing around chimneys, skylights, and whatever else is on the roof. Then we put the cap on the peak of your roof with specially designed shingles. We also seal the roof with a specialized formula that will protect it for years to come. And, of course, we do the cleanup work.
Creating a roof that’s both beautiful and lasting requires roofing experts. You can find them at Royal Crown Roofing. Contact us for help.

If you sit at a computer 16 hours a day, you aren’t in shape to be climbing ladders to make repairs on your roof, even if you aren’t scared of heights. And even if you’re in incredible physical condition, you may want to stay off ladders because they are extremely dangerous. OSHA, in its list of most dangerous jobs, puts roofers as third and that’s because roofers get killed falling off roofs and ladders. So, most of us don’t want to risk it.
Here are some tips for you, though, if you are willing to take the chance and try climbing up onto the roof:
– Make sure the ladder is in good shape, with nothing loose, split, bent or broken.
– Clean up any dirt, grease or dust on the ladder that might cause you to slip.
– Declutter the area before using the ladder.
– Put up the ladder only on a firm, level surface.
– Be sure to face the ladder when climbing up and down to keep your balance.
– Use both hands to securely grip the ladder while climbing.
– Take only small items up the ladder and avoid holding them in your hands.
– Avoid leaning away from the ladder, which can cause you to lose your balance.
– Don’t stand on the two top rungs of the ladder.
– Avoid distractions and stay focused on what you are doing.
Now, if all this seems rather difficult to do, and you want to leave the roof repair and replacement work to the professionals, contact Royal Crown Roofing for their assistance. They are glad to help you.

Perhaps the earliest recorded extreme wind speed in our area was in 1915 when the wind blew in at 120 mph and devastated Galveston. Much later, in 1961 when Hurricane Carla made landfall, the wind was recorded at 125 mph with wind gusts of up to 175 mph. Then in 1983, Hurricane Alicia brought winds of 115 mph and in 2008, Hurricane Ike hit the Texas coast with 110 mph winds. And, of course, all of us who were around in 2017 remember Hurricane Harvey, which had winds of more than 130 mph.
It’s during the months of June through November that the danger of incredible wind speeds threatens our area–that’s hurricane season. But, the wind doesn’t have to be hurricane level to damage our roofs. Even 45 mph winds can cause tree branches and debris to fall on them and do great damage. Winds as low as 60 mph can loosen and break off shingles.
When a roof is damaged, leaks occur around damaged shingles, chimneys, soffit, and fascia. If not spotted, these leaks can eventually cause rot due to water exposure. Most of these problems aren’t easy to spot and can lead to extremely expensive repairs if not taken care of quickly.
Have Royal Crown Roofing check out your roof after the wind blows fiercely to make sure all is well! And make sure repairs are done in a timely fashion!

Not only does a first-rate, attractive roof add curb appeal and financial value to your home, but it also brings a comfortable feeling of protection from the elements and the world outside. The right home can be the place where the heart is.
A good roof protects the world inside the home–the furniture, appliances, rugs, curtains, media equipment, and most of all you, your family, and your pets. If the roof is old and needs repair or replacement, it can destroy all this when water leaks into corners of the house and causes rot and mold in the walls and roof. Not only is all this uncomfortable, but it’s also unhealthy and leads to allergies, asthma, etc.
When the roof’s in good shape, well-insulated, and properly ventilated, it will save you money on energy bills by helping to regulate the temperature inside your home. It will aid in keeping you comfortable all year round, a protection from the heat and cold of our interesting Houston weather. Another plus of a well-insulated roof is that it can act as a noise barrier—keeping outside noises outside the house.
You and all you love who live in your home depend on a safe, appealing and comfortable place to live, protected by one of your most important investments—your roof. So, contact Royal Crown Roofing for their assistance in making sure all is in order on your roof. And replace it when the time comes.
